Overall Reflection

When I look back over everything that I have either written up or shot during this project I am reasonably pleased with everything that I have done there are certain things that I am really happy with and there are some things that I wish I had done a little bit better, but this is the same with every assignment as you can't do everything perfectly and as a photographer you have to find the smallest faults with your work even if other can't find faults in it at all.

The things that I am really happy with are some of my photos, I looked through my first photo shoot and originally dismissed many of my images but then when I went back over them I found many really good images such as this one of the market. I originally found two or three that were decent but probably needed a re-shoot to make them really strong images but after looking over the shoot again I found four or five in need of a re-shoot to make them brilliant images not only this I also found about two images that were brilliant already and that didn't need a re-shoot and this image of the market was one of them. This is an image that I am really proud of as there is plenty going on in the image, but isn't isn't over crowded and is one of my favourite non-football images that I have taken.

When I look over the stuff that I feel I could have done a little bit better on it is my first shoot I feel that despite having a few really strong images I felt there were a few duds in their and a lot that needed a re-shoot. This image here of the gate is an image that has potential and I feel that had I re-shot it I might have been able to gain a really strong image from it. There were also some images that needed a re-shoot and then I could have taken it from their on whether they were any good or not and there were some that were really good but the quality of them due to it being taken on a phone wasn't quite good enough and needed a bit of touching up with a re-shoot. With this shoot I really just wanted to use the images I had taken and not use any Photoshop to try and improve them in anyway.

I felt it would have been better to touch up some of the images with a re-shoot rather than in Photoshop as I wanted to do a natural shoot with no Photoshop at all which is something I have done since I was on my Creative Media course back in early 2013. The only Photoshop used was on the top image to re-size it to A3 for printing. This image here of the scaffolding was an image that I had posed on Instagram and it got a few likes, from fellow photographers so I knew that it was a strong image. Looking at it here on the blog it looks quite good but I feel that if I had touched up the image with a re-shoot on a camera and not on my phone it could have actually been a brilliant image. I feel that a re-shoot wouldn't have required the bus in it but I do like the bus being in the image and it shows just an every day image.

Overall with this project I am happy with what I have produced for it, it was an enjoyable project but I do wish I had done a re-shoot but other than that I am pleased with everything that I have done for this project.

Sam Stockman

Sam Stockman is a British street photographer who is currently based in Nottingham but has shot images all over the world.

This image of Stockman's is of a restaurant which I believe is located at the end of a pier in the UK. This image I'm not too sure about as there really isn't that much going on in the image and there really isn't that much to look at. I would say going to shoot this sort of photography isn't really something that I would want to do because it doesn't really seem that interesting. Without a doubt this is the worst of the three images as there seems plenty going on in the other two and they are actually quite interesting to look at.
This image shows a road in the United States this road shows a yield sign and also has plenty of cars on it, this sort of image to me is more interesting than the top one as much more going on but it isn't too over crowded. This isn't just something I would be interested in shooting but is something that I have done albeit in the UK. This isn't the best image of the three but is much better than the top image.
This image shows an abandoned theme park which I believe is in the UK though it could also be in the US because it does remind me of some theme parks that I have seen in the US and with Stockman having shot in the US before I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually in the US.

In my opinion this is the best of the three images mainly because the image has such a haunting feeling about it mainly because it is in an abandoned theme park this would raise so many questions, including why was the park abandoned? and this is why I love the image.

Overall I feel that Stockman has a very wide variety of images and he seems to capture the images straight on which I find quite interesting as a lot of photographers try to look for different angles on the image, maybe Stockman tried this but found shooting straight on was better either way the bottom two images in particular are brilliant with the last image being in my opinion the best of the three. I would even say that it is one of the best street images that I have ever seen.

Estevan Oriol

Estevan Oriol is a photographer who is based in the United States though not being American, Oriol doesn't specify on his website what nationality he is.

Oriol is known for his images of gangs in the US, he is also known for his black and white images which most if not all his images are like. I personally wouldn't want to take images like these due to the nature of some gangs in the United States I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this. These sorts of images I would be more comfortable doing with normal people instead of gangs. I do really like that all these images is the fact that they are in black and white it gives them a different feel to them I feel it would be interesting to see what these images would have looked like in colour but they probably are better in black and white.
I wouldn't mind attempting some black and white images of Los Angeles which these seem to be of. With Oriol's images as well there is a lot of variation most are of Los Angeles-based gangs but when you took at his images that aren't of the gangs they are so varied and are truly brilliant. With all three of these I think that they do incorporate gangs into them. With the middle one there seems to be a group of people stood near the bridge and with the bottom one someone in the car seems to be showing off their hydraulics to other members of the gang.

All his images like the bottom two which seem to hid the fact that there are gangs in the photos this give some of his work a little bit of mystery about it which is really impressive. Overall I would have to say that I really like Oriol's work but as it is gang related it isn't something that I would attempt the section about Los Angeles I would more than be willing to do.

Reflection on photo shoots

When I look back over the photo shoots that I have done for this assignment I feel that I could have got some better images but I feel that the images that I did get were pretty decent anyway.
This wasn't originally considered one of the best images but after looking over all the images I discovered it and thought that it was probably one of the best that I had taken so I chose the image to be used in the exhibition. I had a couple of others that I could of used but I didn't quite think they were as good as this one. There is something about this image as a street photograph as it shows many people just going about their daily lives and they are oblivious to the camera, this is probably because I took it on my phone and not on a camera.
With this next image this is something I simply stumbled upon whilst out doing a shoot, I began walking towards it and as I walked past it I thought that it would make a really good image so I went
back and took the photo. When I look at the image I feel that I probably should have re-shot it because it is a really good image but it is a little bit out of focus and had I gone back with a camera and not my phone I might have been able to take a really good image and make a strong image and possibly one of my best non-football images.

Overall looking back on the photo shoots that I did for this assignment I am relatively happy with my images I know that I could have easily got some better images but the images that I have got I am proud of and I believe that I got some pretty good ones along the way.

Johnny De Guzman

Johnny De Guzman is an American photographer. De Guzman is widely known for his street photography in which he normally incorporates fog like some of those below.

These images of De Guzman's I find interesting as they used the fog which I have never really seen this gives this image in particular quite a haunting feeling which I find quite interesting and is something that if I get a opportunity I might attempt, though this would depend of if there is any fog. This looks like a petrol station and the fact that it is empty is why this is a really strong image, I feel that if there were cars on the forecourt then the image wouldn't
With this image it doesn't incorporate fog like the other images but like the other images it is nighttime photography. This is also something that I have never tried before and is something that I would definitely be up for attempting, this image doesn't really remind me of anything that I have seen before, off the top of my head but I am sure that I have probably seen something similar to this before. Even despite this I still think that this is a truly brilliant image and is without a doubt something I may one day attempt.
With this I don't quite think it is nighttime, I feel that it is very dark due to rain clouds but the sunlight is coming through so there might also be no fog either. This is in my opinion, by far the best of the three images mainly because he has captured the sunlight breaking through the dark cloud, this is something that I would want to attempt. Looking over all of De Guzman's work I am really impressed with all of his work and is something that I would love to try out and see how I do with it.

Dylan Kasson

Dylan Kasson is an American street photographer who is known for his images that incorporate scooters.

When I look over images of Kasson's such as these I feel that they are something different to what I am used to seeing. These first two image would have been very difficult to take as the person on the scooter is up in the air and I wouldn't be surprised if Kasson had to retake these images several times before he got what he wanted.

Kasson posts a lot of his images on Tumblr and has amassed a huge following from it. Complex.com named him as one of the 50 greatest street photographers right now in a list done back in 2012. Kasson wasn't given a specific rank as the entire list was unranked.
These images make me fascinated about how Kasson would have taken these images, they are some of the best street images that I have seen especially the top one. The top image looks like it may have been taken on film with the others on digital. These images make me interested in how he has taken these images so that I could have a go at this and see what sort of images I could get from this.
These images show to me that Dylan is a brilliant photographer and one who inspires me with his work. Looking at the images shown on Complex.com it shows that not all of his street images are based around scooters some are of buildings as well which are brilliant.

Proposal

This assignment entitled 'Everybody Street' is a project based around street and urban photography for this I will be shooting a variety of street/urban photography and upon completing these shoots I will then decide how many I will use as final images and exactly how many final images I will have.

My plan at the moment is to have about five final images but I will look over all my images and then decide how many to use. This project will see me go out throughout the entire weeks and do a couple of photo shoots I have some planned so once these are done I will have a wide variety of different images so I will then be able to decided my best images from these shoots and from here I hope to be able to narrow it down to a final five.

My plans for this shoot are to take my images on a Canon 1000D camera from college, but if I don't have my shoots done in time I will use either a 40D or 5D Mark III to take some more images over the next few weeks to make sure that by the time we come back in January I have a lot of photos to choose from. My plans are to make sure I gain at least 50 or 60 photos so I have a wide variety of images to look over before I select my final five images.

The sort of images I will be looking for will be a wide variety of images I will simply be going out around the streets and taking photos of anything that I find interesting this will give me a huge variety of images to go through when I choose me final images from my final images may be very similar but all the images I actually take won't be.
